Projection: Money for Science, Not Oligarchs
University of California, Berkeley – Sproul Hall
This projection was presented on the facade of Sproul Hall at the University of California, Berkeley, an iconic site in the history of American activism. The steps in front of the building, now known as the Mario Savio Steps, were the birthplace of the Free Speech Movement in 1964, the same year I was born.
The graphic incorporates the star from UC Berkeley’s official campus seal, connecting this contemporary act of visual protest to the university’s long legacy of civic engagement and intellectual resistance. By projecting the phrase “Money for Science, Not Oligarchs,” I aimed to highlight the urgency of investing in research, education, and public good, rather than allowing concentrated wealth and private interests to shape our future.
